Sign language is beneficial to all ages

Did you know that learning sign language...
  • helps grow non-sign vocabulary, too?
  • offers a secondary form of communication that cuts down on frustration - both yours and theirs!
  • can increase reading ability and comprehension as vocabulary grows?
  • can help bridge certain obstacles seen with dyslexia and autism?
  • can be learned by both children and adults more readily than any other second language?

My first born had some communication challenges early on.  We could see the desire and the need to communicate in his eyes.  We could see the frustration build each time he tried and we could not understand.

ASL, or American Sign Language, was our answer to bridging those gaps.

He saw signs, saw how we began using them, and then saw for himself how this gloriously beautiful language allowed him to be understood for the first time in his young life.

We expected a challenge, but were surprised to see that adults can learn ASL as readily as children because we already have a strong language foundation, and, let's face it - most of us talk with our hands anyway.  Turns out this is likely because hand movements and oral words are processed in the same area of the brain - making ASL a natural extension to our language as well!

The more we researched, the more we found ASL could help our children overcome obstacles, become better readers, cut down on frustration, grow vocabulary, and communicate with more people in ways never before possible.

We have continued to grow our journey into this wonderful language, and now, we invite you to go along with us.  We can help you see the same positive changes we saw in our family.  Discover just how limitless you and your little ones can be.  Discover Sign Academy.

Communicate Early

At age 2, studies show better language skills and IQ scores in children that learned sign language pre-verbally. Since children do learn to communicate with their hands before words developmentally.

Second Language

What parent doesn't want their child to be bilingual? This could be a great option for homeschooling families. Sign language can help with literacy  and language skills and help those struggling with reading.
